The Generous IndiansGovernment, Companies, NGOs and individual volunteers came together to fulfill the short-term financial need of migrant workers, daily wage employees and people employed in unskilled sectors.

“NGOs are estimated to receive between 30-50 percent of total CSR contribution between March and May 2020 to be utilized only for COVID relief.”

However, the overall contribution to NGOs for other causes has drastically reduced since March 2020.”

Temporary Shelter were created to accommodate migrant workers and daily laborers

  • Kerala Government provided shelter to over 47 percent of total 630,000 migrant workers through over 15,000 camps
  • Bajaj Group contributed $13 million for various causes including food and shelter
  • Philips focused on providing funds for migrants and elderly people
  • More than 500 pumps of BPCL helped migrant workers with food and shelter

PM CARES FUND and its Utilization

‘PM CARES FUND’ was established in March 2020 to receive donations and provide support for public health emergency.

Utilization of fund was mainly towards these 3 areas:

Procuring healthcare kits/equipments such as ventilators, marks, gowns, face-shields;

Building healthcare infrastructure such as procuring beds, temporary hospitals, mobile vans for testing;

Building shelter for homeless and supplying food materials to those impacted by economic turmoil.
